Post-16 Routes for Canterbury Year 11s

Simon Langton Grammar for Boys and Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar keep most of their own Year 11s for A-Level, with Barton Court Grammar doing the same. Conditional offers vary by subject and tend to be specific about what they want, with each sixth form publishing its own entry standards.
Apprenticeships
Canterbury Christ Church and the University of Kent both run degree apprenticeships hiring out of the Canterbury Year 11 cohort. My daughter has fallen behind in GCSE Maths. Where does a Canterbury GCSE tutor actually start?
With a diagnostic. The first session usually isn't about the Year 11 topic on the school's whiteboard. It's about which Year 8 or 9 method never properly clicked, fractions, the algebra that won't come back, the timing problem on the calculator paper. Once that's named, the tutor rebuilds the method and drills it until it's automatic, then comes back to the current syllabus with the foundation in place.
We're aiming for a Langton grammar sixth form place. What kind of grades do tutors push towards?
The Langton schools and Barton Court want grade 6 minimum and grade 7 in the subjects a student wants to take at A-Level, with a higher bar for the most-applied-for sciences. Our tutors target the question types those sixth forms quietly weight, the longer-mark Science questions, the unseen poetry in English Lit, the problem-solving in Maths. Most students see the predicted grade move within half a term.
Do you cover all three Sciences separately for triple-award students?
Yes, with separate Biology, Chemistry and Physics specialists. Triple Science at the Langtons and at King's tends to plateau in one specific subject, not all three. We match a subject specialist for whichever one is leaking marks, rather than putting one tutor across all three.
Is GCSE tutoring online, and does it work for Canterbury students?
