Parent of A-Level Student
My son gained almost two grades higher than his year 13 mock paper. His tutor was excellent.
Our High Wycombe A-Level tutors work one-to-one with students to lift the predicted grade before UCAS predictions go to admissions tutors. Most families start in Year 12, ahead of the end-of-year mocks that decide the predicted grade a sixth form sends out.

A WYCOMBE YEAR 12 PIVOT
Results at A-Level across Buckinghamshire sit above the national picture, mostly carried by the grammar sixth forms. That headline hides what happens at the individual student level. A Year 12 doing the work hits a lower mark in the end-of-year mock than expected and can't see what changed. A focused A-Level tutor reads the mock papers, identifies whether the gap is content (the GCSE-to-A-Level jump) or evaluation (the AO3 marks examiners reward), and rebuilds from there.

The Degree Gap has exceeded all my expectations. They have gone above and beyond to pair both my sons with the appropriate tutors, all of whom have been exceptional. Both my sons exceeded their expected grades in their GCSEs and A Levels and got into their first choice universities. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Get in touch and we'll connect you with the right A-Level tutor for your child. We'll ask a few questions about their subjects, year group, and exam board — and introduce you to a tutor who fits.
Year 12 is the better start, because the end-of-Year-12 mock paper is what sets the predicted grade UCAS sees. Starting in January of Year 12 gives a tutor two terms to shift the predicted grade before the prediction hardens. Year 13 still works, especially for students whose January mocks landed below the offer, but the timeline is tighter.
Most conditional offers turn on one subject. The tutor reads recent essays or papers, identifies whether the gap is content depth, evaluation marks or exam-day pacing, and then drills that question type weekly until the marks land. Past papers, marked the way the exam board marks. Most students see the predicted grade move within six to eight weeks of consistent sessions.
Yes, and it's one of the most common reasons families come to us. The volume and depth step up in Year 13, especially in Sciences and Maths where Year 12 gaps compound fast. A tutor traces what's missing from Year 12 (a mechanics method, an organic chemistry mechanism, a specific evaluation chain) and rebuilds it before Year 13 content stacks on top.
From £37 an hour. The rate depends on the tutor's subject, the level and how experienced they are. We agree it with you before any session is booked. No contracts, no hidden fees, no surprises.
